Video: Wounded Chicago Officer Attends Benefit Thanks to FaceTime

Thanks to FaceTime, a Chicago police officer wounded in a traffic stop shooting that left his partner dead was able to join family, friends and colleagues for a fundraiser held in his honor.

Carlos Yanez Jr. is still recovering after he was shot multiple times in a confrontation with an SUV driver during a traffic stop last month. His partner, Ella French, was fatally shot in the head during the call.

The shooting left Yanez Jr. partially paralyzed with limited control of his left hand, his father, Carlos Yanez Sr., told WLS-TV. He also lost an eye and must carry reminders of that incident.

"Unfortunately, the doctors can't remove any of the bullets, because they're highly sensitive areas that would cause more damage removing them than leaving them at this time," Yanez Sr. said.

Dozens of people attended Sunday's benefit at 55 West Bar in Chicago to help Yanez Jr. with the financial strain the injuries from the shooting has put on him.

'He's gone from a three income family to one overnight, and the bills don't stop—mortgages don't stop," Yanez Sr. said.
